About Craftsman Masonry

Craftsman Masonry is a small masonry company from La Marque,TX, with three full time employees. We've been in business 20 years. My name is James Neal. I'm the owner. I've been a resident of La Marque for 20 years and Galveston County for 30 years. I have 30 years practical experience as a bricklayer. I served a four-year apprenticeship with the Houston Bricklayer’s Union. I trained in dimensional stone work, and large commercial and institutional masonry work. Prior to starting Craftsman Masonry I was a supervisor for a large industrial masonry and refractory contractor.

I do all inspections and bid all the projects. You'll get a thorough, detailed proposal. I also personally manage all jobs from start to finish.

Although Craftsman Masonry does all aspects of the masonry trade, we are known as specialists in repair and restoration work. We have a wealth of experience in matching bricks and mortar. All of our employees are hourly paid. We subcontract no masonry work. We're fully insured with workman's compensation, one million dollars in general liability and commercial auto and equipment insurance. We never work with any money up front and get paid only when work is completed per contract and to owner's satisfaction.

If someone has to have money up front for material and/or labor, it's a clear sign that they are not established. Most contractors say they are fully insured, which usually means they have a small $300,000 minimum general liability policy. However, if someone gets hurt on your property you would be responsible for the accident.

When you sign a contract with Craftsman Masonry prior to work starting you will receive certified insurance certificates with your name and address on them with a waiver of subrogation, releasing you from any liabilities.

Our Approach to Brick and Mortar Repair

Provide a long-term solution to the problem. Anyone can chisel out mortar joints, stick some mortar in them, or remove some damaged bricks.Our goal is to identify the cause of the damage and provide a long-term, cost effective solution. We have extensive experience in matching mortar texture and color. In some cases we recommend cleaning the brickwork prior to making mortar samples to get a better assessment of the mortar color.

I personally look at every job. My goal is to have a detailed proposal with photos if needed within 48 hours of accessing the job with all your options and a good idea of how closely we can match the materials.
